Biography

For over 30 years, Kate Teuschler has guided clients through one of life's most complex, daunting and emotionally challenging events: the dissolution of a marriage. Kate is here first for her clients, and in their further support has built a powerful support team at Teuschler Family Law.

While any attorney legally can dissolve a marriage, not any attorney should. Certified as a California Family Law Specialist by the Board of Legal Specialization of the State Bar of California, Kate belongs to an elite group of attorneys who have demonstrated exceptional knowledge and ability in the field. Whether the proceedings are complex and involve businesses, a high net worth couple with substantial assets or are more straightforward, Kate's experience, depth of legal knowledge and technical capabilities are unmatched.

First and foremost, a marriage is a legal arrangement. When it ends, a host of complex and potentially life-altering issues immediately become very real. These range from custody and support issues to management of assets to negotiating financial and family commitments. If these issues are handled correctly, a foundation can be built for a secure future. The goal, always, is to arrive at a workable resolution that allows everyone involved to move on equitably with their lives.

Regrettably, divorce sometimes becomes contentious. Nobody wants this - a courtroom struggle should always be a last resort. But if this becomes unavoidable, Kate is a tenacious and very aggressive advocate. When you have to fight for what's yours, Kate is the litigator who you want in your corner. A former prosecutor, her reputation as a tough, principled and protective trial lawyer precedes her and is a significant asset in settlement negotiations as well.

But perhaps more importantly, Kate also excels at the personal, emotional and strategic aspects of her practice. By definition, divorce is always disorienting, painful and often overwhelming. The personal and the legal aspects of a dissolution are inextricably linked. Kate's role is to integrate both into the day-to-day responsibility of helping her clients transit an unfamiliar, very high-stakes landscape. She does this with an encouraging, professional, supportive and matter-of-fact demeanor her clients both appreciate and come to rely on.

She provides her clients with a clear understanding of their options and both the short- and long-term consequences of their decisions. She presents options with a unique combination of practicality, compassion, and experience. Kate has seen, and worked through, every personal and family situation imaginable, and some that aren't. This experience also means providing the highest level of discretion and confidentiality throughout the entire process.

All of this is powered by vast experience. Kate has been a litigator for 30 years, including 8 years as a Chief Deputy Prosecutor. Her knowledge and confidence reassure and comfort her clients, and in turn, gives them confidence in their own decisions. She has great respect for the difficulty of their circumstances --her clients know she cares deeply and personally about them, and as a result, many of them work with her for years.

Dissolution of a marriage is a transition into a new, often uncertain future. By combining in-depth legal knowledge with judgment, sensitivity and hand-on experience, Kate helps her clients design and create their futures, and ensures that they emerge in the strongest possible position to move confidently into the next phase of their lives.
