Values

Any law firm is defined by its values. Above and beyond the day-to-day legal work, what are the moral and professional principles we strive to uphold? Or, to put it a little more succinctly, what is our “why”? Although these are essential for any attorney, they are particularly important in the delicate, highly personal practice of family law.

Here are our values – what we believe clients should expect, and we challenge ourselves to deliver every day:

Excellence

Above all, we have to be outstanding attorneys. Clients come to us during some of the most difficult times in their lives, and as legal professionals, we have a professional and personal duty to deliver flawless work of the highest possible quality. Whether that involves writing a letter, arguing before a judge, or negotiating a settlement, we demonstrate highest level of skill, day in and day out. Excellence in the practice of law is the foundation of everything we do. If we don’t deliver great work, nothing else matters.

Service

In addition to its technical demands, family law is a service business. Divorce is traumatic, and we go to great lengths to ensure that we are there for our clients whenever and however they need us. The goal is to assist them in making their way through a difficult, unfamiliar process, and that means personal, hands-on contact, and the highest levels of responsiveness and availability. We’re here to listen, we’re here to protect, and we’re here when they need us.

Discretion

Dissolution of a marriage typically requires delving into deeply personal issues, ranging from relationships to finances. Absolute confidentiality is essential, and we take it very, very seriously. Unless we’re legally required to, or there’s a compelling strategic reason, we do not reveal information of any kind about our clients or their cases for any reason ever. To be a little more specific, violation of this policy is grounds for immediate termination of anyone at our firm.

Sensitivity

We never forget that our work is for and about human beings who are facing exceptionally distressing circumstances. We work closely with people who are undergoing extraordinary trauma. The only way to operate in such a situation is with the utmost respect, compassion and care for the people who have put their futures in our hands. Although our work clearly has a technical requirement, we are not transactional attorneys. Every day we work to help families grappling with pain, a loss of security and control and pent-up emotions by listening, and above all, caring.

Collaboration

The key to really effective legal representation is teamwork. To that end, we work closely with a wide range of partners, ranging from business valuation experts and accountants to (of course) the client. The goal isn’t to be right – it’s to get the right answer. There is no substitute for effective communication and innovative thinking, and by bringing in professional with the specialized expertise a case requires, we are able to maximize our effectiveness.
